The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Mr. Viang Mekala has expressed satisfaction at the successful organisation of the 5th edition of the MEVCUDA Agro-sylvo Pastoral Exhibition and Farmers Support Scheme which took place in Limbe from the the 26th to the 31st of August 2024.

He was speaking on Friday 30th August 2024 on the occasion of the launch of the week long ceremony which saw exhibition of farmers and their produce especially from agriculture, floriculture, horticulture, fisheries, livestock as well as agro-forestry sectors.

The week long event was also characterized by a capacity building workshop on Thursday 28th August, launch of the agro-sylvo show and exhibition tour on Friday 30th, sales, sponsor intervention, award of attestations, and donation of farm inputs on Saturday 31st of August 2024.

The Fako Territorial Administrator went further to appreciate the efforts of the organising committee of MEVCUDA for the efforts put in place to help farmers boost productivity crops and livestock for personal and commercial purposes and urged them to do more so that the support would extend to other divisions and regions as well.

The National Coordinator of the MEVCUDA Project, HRH Ndiko Fonderson Henry highlighted the need for such exhibition shows to be orgnised on a regular basis in order to help farmers boost production, “Farmers and communities who carry out major farming activities have left their farms which greatly affected farming production in this part of the country. That is why in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as Ministry of Fisheries, livestock and Animal industries, we have decided to come up with a program to empower the few farmers who are still around to double or why not triple their production efforts in order to cover a larger scope of consumership” he added.

Machetes, watering cans, spraying cans, wheelbarrows, treated corn, hoes and what have you were donated farmers as a means to help production.

The award of recognition to outstanding farmers and their produce was done in the following categories including, agro-forestry, Livestock, Agriculture, fisheries and horticulture.

It should be noted that the MEVCUDA Agro-sylvo Pastoral Exhibition and Farmers support scheme is a programme conceived to assist farming individuals, associations and organisations to boost productivity in Fako Division and its environs.
